The Suleica Caravan was built from 1961 to 1974 by the german company Schäfer.

SULEICA is the abreviation of Superleichtcaravan – SUperLEIchtCAravan (meaning: very light weighted caravan).

The caravan was made out of glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GFR) / polyester, the windows were made out of acrylic glass / plexiglass.

The quantity of all built Suleica is not well known. As far as we know 450 – 800 Suleica were built. Today a minimal amount of 300 Suleica exists.

Schäfer produced different models of the Suleica Caravan – 340, 430, 500 an 2000. The model number is identical with the length of the body in cm. Exception – the body of model 2000 measures 630cm. Suleica 340 and 2000 only have been produced once.

The Suleica 430 was built from 1961 to 1968 and the Suleica 500 was built from 1966 to 1974. In 1966 a swimming version of the Suleica 430 was created, but no serious numbers were produced.

The company also built motorhomes / campervans – The Orion. The look of the Orion is very similar to the look of the Suleica.

In April 1974 a fire destroyed great parts of the company’s workshops. All tools were damaged. The company tried to start the production again, but finally the production was given up.
